Summarize
Hubei Second Normal University relies on the data connection capabilities of the LISS system and the smart laboratory IoT system to cover the entire computer room with 2,000 authorization points, breaking the operation and maintenance pressure of part-time administrators, and standardizing the entire process of computer management, class scheduling, and data retention. Large-screen visualization has become the core highlight of visits and exchanges, effectively supporting teaching and evaluation work.
Project Overview
The Computer Experiment Teaching Center of Hubei Second Normal University undertakes the dual tasks of providing dedicated computer labs for the School of Computer Science and providing public computer labs for the entire university. All computer labs are concentrated in one experimental building, which also features a large display screen, facilitating frequent visits and exchanges. Previously, the center faced multiple management challenges: only two part-time administrators had to handle both maintenance and teaching duties, leading to manpower shortages; traditional maintenance relied on manual operation, resulting in low efficiency in equipment management and maintenance; the paper-based "Laboratory Daily Operation Record Book" was cumbersome to fill out and failed to meet the requirements of the Academic Affairs Office and higher-level safety inspections; scheduling data was out of sync with actual usage, making it difficult to efficiently respond to temporary training and continuing education school scheduling needs; previous similar systems were complex and did not meet expectations, drawing strong feedback from faculty and students.
To address these issues, the university urgently needs a user-friendly, comprehensive, and compatible digital system that reduces maintenance burden, standardizes computer lab management, scheduling, and data retention, and visually displays the construction results on a large screen to support teaching evaluation.
User needs
The experiment features refined operation and maintenance to reduce the burden: It supports functions such as message reminders before shutdown, screen lock when disconnected from the network, and desktop management (blacklist restriction), and synchronizes terminal serial numbers with custom asset items to meet the needs of device labeling and lightweight asset management, thereby reducing the pressure on part-time administrators.
Equipment maintenance and repair: It can detect changes in keyboard and mouse plugging and unplugging, support rapid repair of terminal faults, and ensure stable equipment operation.
Standardized management of computer lab sessions: Enables student authentication and record tracking for computer lab sessions, allowing only students of the corresponding courses to log in during class hours to avoid insufficient computer space due to seat hogging, and supports the data needs of teaching evaluation.
Flexible scheduling: Connects with school accounts and timetable data to meet the scheduling needs of various scenarios such as regular teaching, continuing education college teaching, and temporary training, solving the problem of timetables not matching actual use.
Automatic data retention:Replaces paper-based operation logbooks, automatically generates class information and laboratory operation records, and meets safety inspection and evaluation requirements.
Computer Lab Access and Reservation: Supports students to reserve computer labs outside of class, collects data on open usage, and responds to the school's call to open its computer labs to the public.
Compatibility and ease of use: Supports reuse of old machines, the system is easy to operate and has a low learning curve, avoiding the problem of low usage rate of the previous system.
Large-screen visualization: Data related to computer labs, courses, and other activities are displayed on a large screen on the first floor, meeting the needs of frequent visits and exchanges.
Data integration and sharing: The system integrates with the smart laboratory IoT system to share account and timetable data, allowing users to log in and switch without needing to, thus reducing the workload of maintaining data at multiple points.
Teaching data collection: Collect equipment usage and teaching management data from multiple dimensions to provide sufficient support for subsequent teaching optimization and evaluation.
Solution
Based on the school's core needs, Ouyi Cloud has built an integrated solution of "LISS System + Smart Laboratory IoT System", with core functions covering all-scenario management needs:
Refined operation and maintenance management: Deploy the LISS client to achieve full control of terminals, supporting message reminders before shutdown, screen lock when disconnected from the network, real-time desktop monitoring, and blacklist restrictions on game software; automatically collect terminal serial numbers and custom asset items to meet the needs of device labeling management; detect keyboard and mouse plugging and unplugging changes, support students to quickly report repairs and administrators to process them in batches, forming a closed loop for device maintenance.
Flexible scheduling and access control: Deeply integrated with school accounts and timetable data, supporting various scenarios such as regular teaching, special scheduling for continuing education colleges, and temporary training; class time slots are automatically limited to students logging in only for the corresponding courses, eliminating seat hogging issues and ensuring teaching order.
Automatic data retention and evaluation support: Automatically generates laboratory operation records, class information, and other data to replace paper record books. Data can be directly exported to meet safety inspection and evaluation requirements. In the future, a teaching experiment project table will be implemented to avoid duplicate entry, automatically compile project data, and improve data accuracy.
Computer Lab Opening and Reservation Service: Establish a platform for students to reserve computer labs outside of class, support computer space inquiry and reservation, automatically collect open usage data, and help build extracurricular activities.
Large-screen visualization: The large screen on the first floor displays core data such as the number of users, laboratory occupancy rate, and course schedule in real time, becoming the core display medium for visits and exchanges.
System compatibility and ease of use design: Supports reuse of old machines without the need for additional hardware replacement; optimized user interface, simplified processes, reduced learning costs for teachers, students and administrators, ensuring efficient system deployment.
Cross-system data integration: Enables account and timetable data sharing with the smart laboratory IoT system, supports login-free switching between platforms, and reduces data maintenance workload.
Customer Value
The operational and maintenance burden has been greatly reduced: Two part-time administrators have achieved refined management and control of the data center through the system. Functions such as shutdown reminders, automatic repair reporting, and asset statistics have replaced manual operations, significantly improving operational and maintenance efficiency.
Comprehensive and standardized teaching management: precise control over class access, flexible scheduling, and automatic generation of operation records completely solve problems such as seat reservation, scheduling discrepancies, and cumbersome paper records, meeting the requirements for teaching and safety inspections.
A double success in assessment and demonstration: the data from computer lab sessions and equipment usage is searchable and exportable, efficiently supporting teaching assessment; the large visualization screen on the first floor has become a highlight of visits and exchanges, and has received high praise from leaders on multiple occasions.
Teaching and openness are highly efficient and collaborative: It not only ensures the scheduling needs of regular teaching, continuing education college teaching and temporary training, but also activates the extracurricular value of computer labs through the reservation function, helping to cultivate students' practical abilities.
Data integration reduces redundancy: Data sharing and login-free redirection with the smart laboratory IoT system avoids multiple data maintenance points and reduces management costs.
The system effectively leverages existing infrastructure and ensures ease of use: it is compatible with older machines without requiring additional investment, and its operation is simple and easy to learn, completely changing the previous situation of low usage rates for similar systems and significantly improving the satisfaction of teachers and students.
Sufficient data assets are accumulated: Data on equipment usage and teaching management are collected from multiple dimensions, providing a scientific basis for subsequent teaching optimization and resource allocation, and realizing "data preparedness for any eventuality".
