Recently, The first UNESCO “Digital Learning Week” was successfully held at its headquarters in Paris. With the vision of “Leveraging technology for education,” This Digital Learning Week focused on the impact of digital learning platforms and generative artificial intelligence on education. It aimed to promote digital innovation in higher education in the digital age, facilitate cross-sector collaboration, and build a more inclusive and sustainable education system. This Digital Learning Week featured two plenary sessions and more than 30 breakout sessions, attracting educators, administrators, decision-makers, and stakeholders from over 100 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and more. OS-EASY Group Holding Ltd. from Wuhan, China, as a partner of UNESCO, was invited to participate in this series of Digital Learning Week events, where they listened to international perspectives and shared Chinese experiences.

“Digital Learning Week” Opening Ceremony

Ms. Stefania Giannini, Assistant Director-General for Education of UNESCO, delivered the opening speech and expressed that the international community’s concern about the application of generative artificial intelligence in education is growing day by day. China is the only country that has issued normative framework documents on this matter. UNESCO places great importance on the intersection of “Artificial Intelligence and Education.” Regardless of the stage of technological development, we must ensure that education remains a fundamental human right and advocate for teachers and learners to have access to data and cultivate information literacy. This will enable them to fully address future opportunities and challenges, fostering the exchange and integration of diverse cultures and worldviews.

Mr. Chen Jie, Vice Minister of Education of China, Chairperson of the Chinese National Commission to UNESCO, also attended today’s opening ceremony. He responded in the panel discussion on “Digital Future and Platform Society: Implications for Education” that the Chinese government places upmost importance on digital education and has set clear goals, pathways, and corresponding strategies in this regard. He also emphasized the significance of China’s Smart Education Platforms in enhancing the capabilities of both teachers and students. Lastly, he acknowledged the importance of digital learning platforms and expressed China’s eagerness to further collaborate with UNESCO to jointly advance the future of digital education.

Os-easy Smart classroom winned excellent case with UNESCO

Recently, the Wuzhen Summit of the 2023 World Internet Conference was opened in Wuzhen Zhejiang Province, with the launch and presentation of the 2023 “High-quality case of Building a Community with a shared Future in Cyberspace”. The smart classroom project created by Os-easy in conjunction with the UNESCO Centre for innovation in higher Education (hereinafter referred to as the “Innovation Center”) stands out from more than 200 cases and is successfully selected as one of 13 high-quality case. Zhuang Rongwen, the director of the State Internet Information Office of China and president of the World Internet Congress, Francis Gao, vice president of the World Internet Congress, Wang Song, deputy director of the State Internet Information Office of China, Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the World Internet Congress, and Ke Jixin, vice governor of Zhejiang Province, attended the event and presented commemorative trophies and certificates.

It is reported that, as an important activity of the Wuzhen Summit of the World Internet Congress, the World Internet Conference has organized and launched a collection of practical cases of “working together to build a community with a shared future in cyberspace” every year since 2021, which has won the extensive participation of all parties. Since May this year, the World Internet Conference has collected more than 200 cases around the world. after the selection of experts, 13 high-quality cases with great international influence, outstanding social value and rich display forms have been selected and released on the spot. The selected cases cover five major areas: network infrastructure construction, online cultural exchanges, innovation and development of digital economy, network security, and international governance in cyberspace.

Tang Xiangzheng, the chief technical officer of the smart classroom project of the UNESCO higher Education Innovation Center, said that since 2017, the Innovation Center has joined hands with four enterprises, namely Os-easy, Weidong, Chuangxian and Xiwo. In the form of enterprise donation facilities and professional support provided by the Southern University of Science and Technology, smart classroom projects have been launched one after another, and working together to build a community with a shared future in cyberspace, which has also realized the successful exploration of Chinese enterprises overseas. The Innovation Center has planned 40 smart classrooms in Asia and Africa, of which smart classrooms in 12 countries have been deployed and put into daily operation. “in the smart classrooms built one after another, the digital transformation has changed from theory to practice, integrating the innovative application of information technology, and providing a new teaching environment for colleges and universities.” Tang Xiangzheng said that the Innovation Center will continue to explore the application and continuous innovation of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and expanded reality in smart classrooms.

It has carried out more than 3500 class hours of online and offline teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The course covers more than 10 languages and supports more than 50, 000 people.

The “Higher Education Digitalisation Pioneer Case Award” (hereinafter referred to as the Pioneer Award) organized by the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI), aims to encourage and recognize the active exploration, innovation, and practices of IIOE global partner institutions in the field of higher education digitalization. The theme of this edition of the Pioneer Award is “Reform and Innovation of Blended Learning in Higher Education,” covering topics such as innovative classroom teaching, digital resource development, digital student support, and institutional digital governance and services. The Pioneer Award emphasizes the discovery of localized practical solutions, aiming to gather the global influence of the IIOE partner alliance and lead the digital transformation of higher education institutions in developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

As the evaluation of this edition of the Pioneer Award concludes, we are delighted to announce that a total of 22 outstanding cases have emerged as winners from 131 submissions. Among them, there are 12 cases from overseas institutions, 4 cases from domestic institutions, and 6 cases from enterprises.
